Two arrested after theft of large amount of clothes from UI dorm
Two women have been arrested after allegedly stealing more than $1000 worth of clothing from a University of Iowa dorm room.
Police say the theft took place at Catlett Residence Hall late Thursday night. According to arrest reports, 21-year-old Chanel Terpstra of East Burlington Street and 19-year-old Madeline Wise – who listed an on-campus address – each took items from an unoccupied ninth floor room.
Police say Terpstra took more than $1300 worth of clothes and shoes while Wise allegedly stole $25 in cash and an Illinois driver’s license.
Both were stopped while trying to leave the building, though staff could not locate the items taken by Wise. However, she returned them on her own at a later time.
Terpstra and Wise are each charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, a class D felony carrying up to five years in prison.
