Car catches fire in UIHC ramp

A car fire at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics caused a Hawk alert to be issued Sunday morning.

According to a release from the ICFD, they responded to an automatic fire alarm at 6:05am at parking ramp #2. The first unit arriving on scene found a car on fire in one of the underground levels of the ramp.

A Hawk alert went out urging people to stay away from the area at 6:24am.

The fire was contained by the structure’s sprinkler system, and fire department personnel fully extinguished the blaze.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, and an all clear was issued at 7:18am.

The cause of the car fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal’s Office.
