ICPD: Man was smoking marijuana around two small children

Police have filed a pair of charges against a man they say was smoking marijuana around his two small children.

Officers went to the Town and Campus Apartments home of Devwon Bledsoe, 31, on Friday night to serve a warrant on another person in an unrelated case when they said they could smell marijuana at the complex. As they approached Bledsoe's apartment, officers say the smell got stronger and when the door was opened there was "a very strong odor of freshly burnt marijuana."

Police say three other adults - two of whom had warrants out for their arrest - and two "small" children were in the apartment. A further search of the apartment turned up a quantity of marijuana in baggies hidden in a baby's pack and play. A larger bag of marijuana was found hidden in a floor vent.

Officers say Bledsoe was found in possession of a large amount of cash, mainly small bills. He also allegedly admitted the marijuana was his and police say he appeared to be under the influence.

Bledsoe was taken into custody on charges of 2nd Offense Possession of a Controlled Substance and Child Endangerment. If convicted on both charges, he faces up to three years in jail.

Officers say the children were taken from the home and childcare arranged for.
