An Iowa City man who was arrested for domestic assault in October last year has been charged with the same offense again.

Police were called to the 1900 block of Waterfront Drive Wednesday just before 8:20 pm. The victim alleged that 30-year-old Christopher Hasselbrink punched her in the face and choked her. Arriving officers noted that the woman had marks and bruises to her neck, and alleged that Hasselbrink impeded her airway when she was choked.

The two are reportedly in a relationship and live together.

Hasselbrink has two prior convictions for domestic abuse assault; one in February 2021 from Johnson County and January of this year from Washington County. He was also arrested in October for the offense when he reportedly pushed a woman he had previously lived with as he left her residence, then kicked the door open to gain access after she locked him out.

Hasselbrink faces up to ten years in prison if convicted on charges relating to Wednesday’s incident.
