An Iowa City man faces Attempted Murder charges after allegedly firing two rounds at a woman early Saturday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred just before 6 am in the 2400 block of Muscatine Avenue. Arriving officers who responded to a disturbance investigated the matter, and reportedly determined that 29 year-old Quentin Williams had assaulted a woman during an altercation. The victim allegedly sustained bruises, broken ribs, and a punctured lung. She received emergency medical treatment on scene and was hospitalized.

Further investigation determined that Williams threatened the woman with a firearm, and fired at least two rounds as she left the residence. One of those rounds was fired through the doorway as the woman ran out.

Under Miranda, Williams allegedly admitted he had been in the altercation with the woman and said he was “reckless.” Officers located a loaded firearm at the residence which they believe is the firearm used during the incident. Williams is a convicted felon and not allowed to legally possess firearms.

Two children under the age of ten were present during the reported assault.

Williams was taken into custody. He faces charges of Attempted Murder, Willful Injury causing Serious Injury, 3rd or subsequent Domestic Abuse Assault, Domestic Abuse Assault impeding Airflow, and two counts of Child Endangerment. If convicted on all charges, Williams faces a possible prison term of up to 49 years.
