Jewelry Store manager charged with theft

A North Liberty man has been arrested after police say he stole cash and merchandise from a jewelry store he was managing.

Coralville Police were called to Kay Jewelers in the Coral Ridge Mall  at 12:52 p.m. Wednesday. An investigation showed the manager, Troy Woods, 24, of Grouse Court, took merchandise from the store and issued false returns for cash.

Police estimate the value of the merchandise taken was more than $22,000, while the amount of fraudulent returns for cash was over $30,000.

After being read his Miranda rights, Woods allegedly consented to speak to authorities and confirmed the theft of merchandise and fraudulent returns.

Woods was taken into custody on a charge of 1st Degree Theft, a class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
