An Iowa City woman is accused of using her access to her place of employment to steal thousands of dollars.

Police say Lonnisha Anderson, 24, of the Town and Campus Apartments, used her key to enter the downtown Iowa City Panchero's on Clinton Street about 5:40 the morning of Jan. 16, while the business was closed.

Anderson is accused of then using an employee code to open the cash register and unlock the safes, taking more than $3500.

Police were able to track down Anderson as they say she was one of only a few people who had a key and knew how to access the cash while she also matched the description of the person seen on surveillance video during the theft.

Anderson is charged with 2nd Degree Theft and 3rd Degree Burglary, both class D felonies carrying up to five years in prison each.
