Two Iowa City men charged in robbery, sexual assault
Two Iowa City men are in police custody on robbery and sexual abuse charges.

Details about the incident have not been released. But police records show they took Earl Riley, Jr., 28, of the Hawk Ridge Apartments, and Sullivan Smith-Berry, 25, of Hollywood Boulevard, into custody for their roles in the incident which took place about 11:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at an unspecified Iowa City location.

Riley and Smith-Berry are each charged with 1st Degree Robbery, 1st Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse. Each of those charges is a class B felony and the two men each could be sentenced to up to 75 years in prison.

Judge Jason Burns on Wednesday set bond for Riley and Smith-Berry at $300,000 each and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Dec. 15, while also instituting a no-contact order with the alleged victim or victims.

The Johnson County Public Defender’s Office has been appointed to represent Smith-Berry while Riley is being represented by the Linn County Public Defender’s Office after the Johnson County Public Defender withdrew representation in his case.
