Regents president says another tuition hike possible
Another tuition increase may be coming for University of Iowa students before the 2017-18 school year.

Board of Regents President Bruce Rastetter on Thursday suggested a tuition hike for all three state-run universities may be necessary in light of the fact the state legislature cut more than $20 million from their budget this year, with more cuts to higher education funding scheduled for fiscal 2018.

The board had already approved a two percent increase for the upcoming school year, increasing in-state tuition at the UI to $7,270. But Rastetter said another increase may be necessary and said the board may need to schedule a special meeting next month.

The board’s next planned meeting is currently set for June 6.
