Six people charged after shot fired near Fairmeadows Park
A total of six people have been charged in relation to a report of shots fired in Iowa City on Monday.

Sgt. Scott Gaarde says four of those charged – 24-year-old Dimione Walker of the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street, 20-year-old Dearl Johnson of B’Jaysville lane, 18-year-old Daivon Jones of B’Jaysville Lane, and 18-year-old Victor Jones of Sandusky Drive had been wanted for failing to appear in court on various charges.

Those four and a juvenile – whose name and age have not been released – all face one count of Interference with Official Acts for running away from officers who had been called to Lakeside Drive and Amber Lane about 12:30 p.m. Monday. A sixth person – 22-year-old Brandon Juniel of Douglass Street – has been charged with 1st Offense Possession of a Controlled Substance, as has the juvenile.

Initial reports indicated someone had been shot near Fairmeadows Park and Grant Wood Elementary. But police say no one was injured and the one gunshot was fired into the ground, though they have not indicated if that shot was intentional or an accident.

Interference with Official Acts is a simple misdemeanor carrying up to 30 days in jail, while Possession of a Controlled Substance is a serious misdemeanor and has a maximum jail sentence of one year.

Police say the incident remains under investigation. Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is also offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to an arrest. They can be contacted anonymously at 358-TIPS (8477) or online at
