Motorcyclist arrested after brief police chase through downtown IC
A motorcyclist has been arrested after a brief police chase through downtown Iowa City.
Arrest records indicate Iowa City Police attempted to pull over 22-year-old Reiley Hanson of Olive Street just before 1am Saturday after a check of the license plate on his motorcycle showed his license to be suspended. Hanson was travelling near Clinton and Washington Streets, but when the officer activated his siren and lights Hanson allegedly accelerated to speeds over 60 miles per hour on Clinton Street before turning eastbound the wrong way on Market Street.
Hanson was later taken into custody in North Liberty. He showed multiple signs of intoxication, and his blood alcohol concentration was measured at .141 on a Datamaster.
Hanson is charged with second offense Operating While Intoxicated and Eluding. If convicted, he faces a maximum of over five years in prison.
