Iowa City Police have charged a man who claimed to be a modern-day Robin Hood after he was caught stealing food from a grocery store.

Officers were called to the Waterfront Hy-Vee just before 11:30 Thursday morning for a report of a shoplifter. An investigation determined that 25-year-old Joshua Odeen of Cedar Rapids had tried to steal two slices of pizza, a Hawkeye vintage hat, Alaska snow crab legs and a bottle of Jameson Irish Whiskey. The total amount of the items was just under $100.

Odeen told officers he was trying to be like Robin Hood because he planned to share the food with someone else. He’s charged with 5th Degree Theft, a Simple Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of 30 days in jail. An initial court appearance is set for October 24th.
