IC man accused of leading police on car chase after theft from Target
An Iowa City man is accused of leading police on a chase through Coralville and Iowa City after being caught shoplifting.
Police say the incident began when Jeremy Mulvaney, 47, of East College Street, ran out of a side door of Target at the Coral Ridge Mall with nearly $150 in stolen merchandise about 9:45 p.m. Monday.
Mulvaney then allegedly got in his vehicle and took off on Interstate 80 eastbound, exiting at Dubuque Street. An officer located his vehicle at that time, turning on his lights and siren. However, Mulvaney is accused of continuing on, traveling at speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour through the construction zone.
Mulvaney was arrested on Tuesday afternoon, charged with 3rd Degree Theft, Eluding, Interference with Official Acts, and multiple traffic violations. He faces a maximum sentence of more than three years in jail.
