Iowa City Police were busy providing support during Friday night’s University of Iowa Homecoming parade…but they were also busy afterward conducting sweeps of the downtown bars.

Online records show 16 people were cited for alcohol-related charges Friday night and early Saturday morning…including 14 in downtown bars. Nine people were issued citations for Possession of Alcohol Under the Legal Age, or PAULA. Five more were charged with being in a bar after 10pm while underage. One person was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated near the corner of Iowa Avenue and Clinton Street just before 9pm, and another was cited for Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in Public near Burlington and Johnson Streets just after 3am Saturday.

Eight of the underage alcohol citations were at the Union Bar, with three apiece at Bo James and The Fieldhouse.

Presence on Premises After Hours and PAULA are each simple misdemeanors punishable by a fine of up to $250.
