A Cedar Rapids man facing felony domestic abuse charges in Linn County is accused of harassing an Iowa City hospital patient by calling her dozens of times against her wishes.

Iowa City Police say the alleged victim fled from Cedar Rapids to Iowa City to get away from 40-year-old Tommy Collins of 4th Avenue Southeast. While in Iowa City the woman was hospitalized at Mercy Hospital. During her September 28th hospitalization Collins allegedly tried to reach her 21 times through Facebook caller and 17 times via phone. Collins is accused of leaving her multiple voicemails of him yelling at the woman.

The woman reported the voicemails were alarming and annoying at a time when she was dealing with health and safety concerns, and she was fearful of Collins due to reasons being dealt with elsewhere.

Online records show Collins faces charges of Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Domestic Abuse Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury and Domestic Abuse Assault While Using or Displaying a Weapon in Linn County stemming from an incident on September 27th…one day before the woman reported being harassed by Collins while at Mercy Hospital.

Collins is charged with 3rd Degree Harassment in Johnson County. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 30 days in jail.

If convicted on the Linn County charges, Collins faces a maximum of nine years in prison.
