Airbnb: IC hosts rack up big $$$ on home football weekends

Airbnb says its Iowa City hosts brought in big money during home football weekends this season.
The company estimates local participants hosted 1,900 people this year, earning approximately $223,000. The totals…issued in a company news release…include an estimated 220 guests and $25,000 for the Hawkeyes’ season finale against Nebraska this Friday.
The largest weekend for Iowa City Airbnb hosts was for the Wisconsin game on September 21st and 22nd, when an estimated $50,000 was raised by 380 occupants.
Because most Iowa City-area hotels are at full occupancy during home football weekends, Airbnb notes the extra visitors bring even more money into the local economy.
