Allegedly hitting a farmer with a baseball bat during a hay bailing dispute has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.

The incident happened just after 4:45 Sunday afternoon just west of Iowa City.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says the victim was organizing round hay bales in a field just off the 3200 block of IWV Road when he was approached by a baseball bat-wielding resident of the property, identified as 63-year-old Jerold Allen Rogers. Rogers allegedly climbed onto the tractor the defendant was driving, but was unable to open the cab. Investigators say Rogers then swung the bat and made contact with the driver’s head, causing swelling and bleeding.

Rogers is charged with Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury, an Aggravated Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of two years in jail.
