Third victim dies after two-vehicle accident south of Solon
A two-vehicle accident last week south of Solon has claimed another life.
According to The Burlington Hawkeye, 20-year-old Jose Gamez Avila of Wapello died Monday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
He was one of three victims involved in a head-on collision that happened just after 8:30pm on November 15th on Highway 1 just south of 210th Street. The Iowa State Patrol says a Dodge Caravan being driven by 30-year-old Tori Sabin Smith of Mediapolis was travelling southbound when it crossed the center line and struck a northbound Kia Sportage being driven by 50-year-old Kirk Flom of Solon.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Avila was airlifted to the UIHC, where he later died.
Smith and Flom were wearing seat belts. Avila was not.
The accident remains under investigation.
