Iowa City Police say a barred driver tried to give them the slip, but they were still able to make an arrest.

Officers noticed 38-year-old transient Stevie Moore driving his Dodge Caravan westbound on Kirkwood Avenue near Gilbert Street just after 2pm Monday. They became suspicious when they noticed the vehicle didn’t have any license plates.

Once the police cruiser was behind Moore, he pulled into the Aero Rental parking lot, walked up to the door and peered into the window of the closed business. He then walked away on foot to the nearby Kirkwood Liquor Store, where he was confronted by police. Moore denied knowing anything about the vehicle he left at Aero Rental and denied driving.

Moore is barred from driving as a habitual offender until 2022. He’s charged with Driving While Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of two years in jail.
