A Shelter House resident faces charges that he stole a backpack from the Johnson County Emergency Management Agency.

The stolen backpack was reported to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office at 10am on December 20th. The backpack had been on display at the Johnson County Administration Building on South Dubuque Street in a Johnson County EMA booth.

Investigators used security video to identify 66-year-old Ronal Rarey as one of two suspects who went through items in the backpack, and as the subject who took the backpack from the building. The backpack and its contents had an estimated value of $125.

Rarey was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 2:30 Friday afternoon and charged with 5th Degree Theft.
