Coralville firefighters extinguish apartment blaze

Coralville firefighters responded to an apartment blaze Friday night.

According to a news release issued by Coralville fire chief Orey Schwitzer, the Coralville Fire Department responded to a multi-tenant building fire at 1760 5th Street at approximately 5:50 Friday night. Fire damage was contained to that unit. The remainder of the building sustained smoke damage.

The fire was extinguished about 20 minutes after firefighters arrived, and firefighters remained on scene until 8:30pm.

There were no injuries reported, and damage is estimated at $30,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Coralville Fire Department, which was assisted by the Johnson County Ambulance Service and North Liberty and Iowa City Fire Departments.
