Chicago man wanted for intentionally ramming vehicle in 2017 arrested
A Chicago man wanted since the summer of 2017 for intentionally ramming a vehicle in Iowa City has been taken into custody after allegedly assaulting a woman.
Police took Maurice Barfield, 32, into custody Thursday night after an alleged incident on Hollywood Boulevard. They say Barfield struck a woman in the face multiple times during an argument over money.
He had been wanted since June 2017 for terrorizing a woman in her vehicle on the city’s west side. At the time, Barfield lived in Cedar Rapids and police say he was upset with the occupants of another vehicle on Mormon Trek Boulevard, allegedly intentionally ramming into the vehicle from behind.
The other vehicle then pulled a u-turn but police say Barfield followed them, continuing to ram into it on multiple occasions until he accidentally caused a multiple vehicle crash which resulted in the driver of the other vehicle suffering significant injuries.
Between the two incidents, Barfield faces charges of Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon Causing Injury, and multiple traffic violations. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 11 years in prison.
