Starting a fire with his clothing in a jail cell has led to an extra charge against a Texas man.

Mark Green, 37, of Flint, Texas, was arrested for Public Intoxication in the 600 block of South Dubuque Street on Monday afternoon. After he had been placed into a holding cell at the Johnson County Jail about 4:30 p.m., jail officials say they could smell something burning in the cell.

When officers checked Green’s cell, they say they saw smoke and flames coming from one of his socks, which officers say Green lit on fire with matches he had hidden on his person during his booking.

The entire incident can be seen on the jail’s security cameras.

The Public Intoxication charge is a simple misdemeanor carrying up to 30 days in jail. But Green is now charged with Reckless Use of Fire, a serious misdemeanor with a maximum jail sentence of one year.
