A new plea hearing has been set for one of two people allegedly involved in a robbery and shootout at the Iowa City Marketplace.

Court records show following a case management conference last week, a new plea hearing was scheduled for Friday for Michael Shapcott, 29, of Spruce Street. He had pleaded not guilty to charges of 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief, Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Reckless Use of a Firearm Causing Property Damage, and Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence in November.

If convicted on those charges, he would face up to 19 years in prison. Trial is currently scheduled to begin on Feb. 19.

Police say Shapcott and Sara Schrader, 27, who lives with Shapcott, went to Aaron’s Rental on the west end of the shopping center the afternoon of Sept. 3. Schrader allegedly went inside and took cash from the register. When an employee stopped her, police say Schrader fled to Shapcott’s vehicle.

The pair are then accused of firing multiple rounds from handguns at the store as they left, with police saying at least two of those shots entered the store and several others hit the building.

No injuries were reported.

Schrader has pleaded not guilty to the same charges filed against Shapcott. She’s scheduled to stand trial next month.
