A transient faces an Operating While Intoxicated charge after police say she was found passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle which was running and still in drive.

Police say a passerby reported finding a woman unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the vehicle in the 500 block of North Van Buren Street about 8:45 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived on scene, they say Mercedes Hadnot, 24, was still passed out in the driver’s seat of the running vehicle, which was still in drive.

They were able to awake Hadnot and get her to put the vehiclein park. But they say she showed multiple signs of intoxication and admitted to taking a quarter-section of a “Green Dragon” Xanax bar a little more than an hour prior. Police say she failed field sobriety testing, though a breath test showed her blood alcohol content to be .000.

A Drug Recognition Expert determined Hadnot to be intoxicated on a CNS depressant and marijuana.

Hadnot is charged with 1st Offense OWI, a serious misdemeanor with a maximum jail sentence of one year.
