A bond review hearing has been set for this week for a Coralville woman accused of poking at her young children with a knife, injuring one.

Judge Paul Miller last week scheduled the hearing for Tuesday for Whitney Claybon, 29, of Boston Way. Bond was initially set at $47,500 by judge Deborah Minot a few days after Claybon was taken into police custody last month, instituting a $25,000 bond on a Child Endangerment Causing Bodily Injury charge and $7500 each for two counts of Assault With a Deadly Weapon and another Child Endangerment charge.

Miller also ordered Claybon to interview with the Department of Correctional Services prior to the bond review. DCS officials are expected to appear at that hearing.

The alleged incident took place on Jan. 11 at Claybon’s home. Police say they were called on a report Claybon had assaulted her five- and two-year-old children, with arriving officers being told by witnesses that Claybon had been poking and stabbing at the children.

Those witnesses said she had poked at the arms and legs of the older child while he tried to crawl away from her and stabbed at the younger child’s chest. She also allegedly held the knife up to each child’s throat.

Police say the five-year-old suffered a cut to his arm while the two-year-old was uninjured.

Claybon wasn’t arrested until nearly two weeks after the incident because she had been taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, being held on an in-patient basis. She was arrested upon her release on Jan. 22.

If convicted on all charges, Claybon faces up to 11 years in prison. An arraignment date has not yet been set as she’s already changed lawyers twice.

A no-contact order has been put in place between Claybon and the children.
