Field set for North Liberty special election after Friday’s deadline

The field is set for North Liberty’s special election to fill a vacant city council seat.
Six candidates filed ahead of Friday’s 5pm deadline.
They include Abdouramane Bila, Brent Smith, Matt Zacek., Josey Bathke, RaQuisha Harrington, and Steve Sherman.
Those six are each running to fill the seat vacated by Jim Sayre earlier this month. Sayre took a new job in Arizona. His term runs through the end of the year and the seat will be up for election again this November.
Early voting will begin on Feb. 27 and a League of Women Voters of Johnson County candidate forum is scheduled for Feb. 28 at City Hall.
