RaQuisha Harrington defeated five other candidates in the North Liberty special city council election Tuesday with 275 votes…or 33%. Runner-up Brent Smith was 22 votes behind with 31%.

Steve Sherman, whose petition led to the special election, finished third with 14%.

Josey Bathke and Abdouramane Bila each earned 9%, with Matt Zacek getting 4%.

Harrington will serve for nine months filling the seat vacated by Jim Sayre last month after he took a new job in Arizona. His term runs through the end of the year and the seat will be up for election again in November.
