Warmer temperatures and the threat of rain has caused the National Weather Service to issue a flood watch starting Wednesday afternoon.

The storm will move through the Midwest and has the potential for heavy rain. With the ground saturated and still frozen, that rain, along with the melting snow, will quickly run off into low-lying areas and could produce possible flooding.

The Iowa River in Lone Tree is expected to rise above its flood stage of 16 feet Tuesday and peak at 19.3 feet on Sunday, which would put the river in moderate stage.

The watch is in effect through Thursday afternoon and affects Johnson, Linn, Benton, Iowa and Jones counties in the east central portion of the state.

The Weather Service will be updating the forecast as needed.
