A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested in Coralville after allegedly stealing his girlfriend’s car and kidnapping her child.
Coralville Police say that on the afternoon of March 5th 32-year-old Justin Anderson of 18th Street Northwest took the keys to his girlfriend’s Dodge Journey without permission and used it to pick up the woman’s seven-year-old child from school. Anderson then refused to give the child back, and lied to police about his whereabouts.
Anderson was eventually arrested at the Hy-Vee Gas Station on the Coralville Strip. He was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 11am Friday and charged with 3rd Degree Kidnapping and Operating a Vehicle Without Owners’ Consent. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 12 years in prison.
