Fire damaged a home on East Davenport Street Tuesday night.
Iowa City firefighters responded to 954 East Davenport Street just before 7:15pm after neighbors reported smoke coming from the second floor of the house. The first fire unit arrived on the scene four minutes after notification and reported heavy smoke and flames showing from the second floor of the two-story house.
Fire crews entered the structure and brought the blaze under control within twenty minutes. After a search of the house, one cat and one baby chicken were located and removed to safety. No other occupants were located.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The fire caused damage to all three floors of the structure and smoke damage throughout. The fire department estimates $20,000 in damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
