An Iowa City transient has been taken into custody after a domestic incident Monday afternoon.

Reports indicate that 19-year-old Anthony Alexander was involved with a moving domestic incident covering several blocks, in which he argued with a woman who he’s had a relationship with.

The victim in the incident indicates she led him away from her residence because he is trespassed from there, and after arguing for a time declared that she was done and not going to continue the relationship.

Alexander allegedly reacted to this by grabbing the hood of her sweatshirt and attempted to grab her phone, at which pointed she stated she was going to call police. Alexander was able to wrest the phone away from her and proceeded to destroy the phone. He then got on his phone and called police himself, claiming that the victim had thrown a phone at him.

A witness passing by near the area of North Gilbert and Market Streets assisted the woman and they called police on Alexander.

After arrest. He’s accused of screaming and yelling, calling the officer a racial slur, a “racist bitch,” and said he was going to “get (the officer’s) ass fired.” He allegedly spit at the officer while in the squad car and stated he was going to do it again when he got out. He continued to kick the partition and disrupt the arresting officer’s paperwork.

He’s twice been charged with domestic abuse with the victim, once for impeding her airway in October of 2107, and a year later for an aggravated assault.

He’s been charged with domestic abuse assault 3rd or subsequent, harassment of a public official,  obstruction of emergency communications, trespass 3rd or subsequent, and 3rd degree criminal mischief. Alexander could be sentenced to up to over seven years in prison if convicted.
