IC man arrested for punching woman several times

An Iowa City man was taken into custody late Monday after punching a woman several times during an argument.
According to reports, 21-year-old Navin Johnson of Shire Lane got into a verbal argument with the victim while they were walking near Bardot on Gilbert Street. Johnson is accused of striking the woman several times while they were walking.
The woman got into Johnson’s vehicle with him and while driving, he allegedly continued the assault, punching her several more times in the face. She suffered a laceration to her lip and swelling to her eyes, and complained of pain.
Johnson had fled the scene by the time officers arrived, but he was picked up later and charged with domestic abuse assault causing injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison if convicted.
