A continuance has been granted in an almost two-year-old case of a West Liberty man charged with killing a bicyclist in a car crash last year.

31-year-old Ryan McKillip is charged with Vehicular Homicide by Reckless Driving and Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident.

The accident happened a few miles southwest of West Liberty on Davis Avenue the morning of June 25, 2017. The Iowa State Patrol says McKillip was southbound on Davis when he passed too closely and hit 40-year-old bicyclist Lisa Kuhn of Muscatine. The state patrol says McKillip had been speeding.
Kuhn was later pronounced dead at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Investigators say McKillip initially drove off without stopping, but eventually returned to the scene of the accident.

McKillip appeared at a pre-trial conference in Muscatine County Friday morning, where Judge Stuart Werling granted a continuance until May 17th.

A trial date has not yet been set.
If convicted on both charges, McKillip faces up to 15 years in prison.
