Curtis Jones was sentenced to another life sentence Tuesday for the murder of bail bondsman Jonathon Wieseler in April of 2017.

6th Judicial District Judge Lars Anderson also ordered Jones to pay $150,000 in victim restitution to Wieseler’s estate or heirs. He suspended court costs and fines.

Jones had already been sentenced to life in prison in November for the June 2017 murder of Iowa City cab driver Ricky Lillie in a separate trial; Judge Anderson ordered the sentences to run consecutively.

During sentencing, Jones, who represented himself, argued that the verdict was contrary to the weight of the evidence and that the all white jury’s prejudice and bias overshadowed the facts. Judge Anderson said Jones had a fair trial and called the murder a “violent and senseless offense.”

Murder convictions in Iowa do not offer the option of parole.
