Allegedly drunkenly harassing Iowa City Police out on bar checks has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.

Officers were conducting bar checks on the Ped Mall early Saturday morning when 24-year-old Miguel Camarena of South Dodge Street allegedly approached them and began accusing them of “cherry picking”. Police say Camarena was clearly intoxicated and was given a verbal warning.

A short time later, just after 1:45am, he again began bothering officers outside The Fieldhouse and made harassing comments. He was arrested for Public Intoxication, and allegedly fought with officers as they were trying to put him into handcuffs. One officer suffered a small scape to his knee and pain and swelling in his right hand as a result.

Camarena was additionally charged with Interference with Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury.

If convicted, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
