Iowa City Police have arrested a man they say stuffed THC cartridges in his underwear in order to avoid detection.

Officers pulled over 20-year-old Dylan Busse of Camanche for speeding and an improper right turn on the 100 block of East Washington Street at 12:15am Saturday. Busse and a passenger, identified as 21-year-old Devan Michels of The Quarters on Highway 6 East, were seen trying to conceal items when officers approached the vehicle.

A police K-9 alerted on the vehicle, and a search turned up 11 cartridges of high concentration THC in Busse’s underwear. Michels was observed trying to hide a vaporizer pen, and was found with an open tallboy of Corona that was about three-quarters full. Several cartridges were found in the back seat, as was a Ziplock bag containing THC oil. Michels eventually admitted the vaporizer might have marijuana in it.

Busse admitted under Maranda that he obtains approximately 50 THC cartridges at a time from another person and sells them. He showed multiple signs of impairment, and a drug recognition expert determined he was under the influence of cannabis and a CNS depressant.

Busse is charged with Operating While Intoxicated, a Controlled Substance Violation and Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 12 years in prison.

Michels is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Alcohol by a Person Underage.
