A Cedar Rapids man was taken into custody early Tuesday after defrauding an Iowa City man out of $1300 in cash.

According to police reports, 53-year-old Robert Littrel of Park Court Southeast convinced the victim to lend him $750 for a down payment on a trailer at the Hilltop Trailer Court on February 13th. The following day, Littrel is accused of talking the victim out of another $550, this time to help him purchase a Dodge pickup he was interested in buying.

The man says Littrel disappeared after that, and reports indicate that Littrel sold his phone in Victor Iowa and made no attempt to contact the victim to repay the money.

Littrel was apprehended and booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 3AM on 2nd Degree Theft charges. If convicted, Littrel could be sentenced to a maximum of five years in prison.
