The University of Iowa has named TaJuan Wilson, executive director of Student Programs and Diversity and assistant professor at the Medical University of South Carolina to be the new associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

In a release from the University, Dr. Wilson is described as having had daily oversight of student programs and diversity at the Med U of South Carolina, including recruitment, orientation, student life, off-campus housing, and student communications.

Previously, Wilson was executive director of multicultural student retention at Missouri State, and also served as interim executive director of the Multicultural Resources Center and LGBTQ Center.

Wilson was one of three candidates for the position who visited the University of Iowa last month and participated in public forums. He replaces Melissa Shivers, who has been serving in that post on an interim basis since May 2018.

He will start on June 28th, pending approval by the Board of Regents.
