An Iowa City woman was taken into custody Tuesday after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend while their child was in the next room.

Police were dispatched to the 300 block of South Taft Avenue at approximately 12:15am for a 911 hangup. The woman, 24 year-old Marissa Myrold, told a dispatcher that the call was a mistake when called back.

An officer met with the victim, who had cuts on his arms and face, redness around an eye and a stretched-out shirt collar. He alleges that Myrold began assaulting him after an argument over his cellphone, hitting him and grabbing at his genitals with the intention of inflicting injury. He told the officer that this wasn’t an isolated incident and in the past Myrold has threatened to claim that he, in fact, was the aggressor.

Myrold acknowledged that an altercation had taken place about the phone, but it was a mutual argument, and accused the man of hitting her in the legs.

The two-year-old daughter of the couple was in the next room during the alleged incident.

Myrold was taken into custody and charged with child endangerment and domestic abuse assault. If convicted on the charges, she could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
