A Denver man has been identified as one of the Americans killed in the devastating series of bombings in Sri Lanka Sunday.

Dieter Kowalski’s last Facebook posting said “And the fun begins. Love these work trips. 24 hours of flying. See you soon Sri Lanka.”

According to John Fallon, the CEO of Pearson, an education company with offices in Iowa City, Kowalski had just arrived at his hotel in Columbo, Sri Lanka, where many Pearson employees have stayed over the years, when a bomb went off.

He was there to help Pearson’s engineering teams troubleshoot some challenges.

Fallon said that colleges who knew Kowalski describe him as fun to be around, big hearted and full spirited, and was someone who they would give the most challenging of engineering problems, knowing that he would jump straight in and help figure it out.

Pearson has offices all over the world, and was founded in 1844 by Samuel Person in Yorkshire England.
