An Iowa City man violated a no-contact order with the victim and was taken into custody.

Police allege that 23-year-old Deandre Davis of Westside Drive went to the victim’s residence, an apartment in the 700 block of 21st Avenue in Coralville at approximately 1:30am Monday. He gained entrance by going through an unsecure balcony sliding glass door on the second floor, punched the woman in the face, and took her phone.

Later in the day the woman got her phone back and was afraid to call police, so she took a selfie of her face and sent it to her sister. The sister then contacted authorities, who went to the woman’s apartment just after Davis had tried to take her phone again, grabbing her arm and leaving red marks. Davis heard sirens and allegedly jumped off the second-floor balcony.

Davis was already wanted on a probation violation on a series of motor vehicle burglaries from 2014 and for violating a no-contact order on a Domestic Assault charge from 2017. He was taken into custody Monday evening and charged with domestic abuse assault 3rd or subsequent offense, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison if convicted.
