A transient who failed to show up for his sentencing hearing on Robbery and Harassment charges has been taken into custody after allegedly getting caught taking scrap metal from an abandoned home.

Arrest reports indicate that 60-year-old Christopher Neuzil was found after officers were called to the 5400 block of Highway 22 in Lone Tree for reports of a suspicious vehicle parked behind a residence and possibly entering an abandoned home.

Officers found Neuzil in the driver’s seat of that vehicle. Under Miranda, Neuzil allegedly admitted to removing scrap metal and toys from the residence in an attempt to sell them for money. He also admitted that he had entered and slept inside a camper that was located on the property.

Neuzil first identified himself using his brother’s name before confirming his actual identity. A check of his driving records showed he is barred from driving until May 2020.

Neuzil was taken into custody and charged with driving while barred and third-degree automobile burglary. He could be sentenced to a maximum of four years in prison if convicted.
