Representatives from the Golfview Mobile Home Court in North Liberty met with their new  owners on Thursday in a town hall meeting, and learned that the proposed rate increase on lot rentals won’t be quite as steep at first.

Residents were told in March that their rents would jump from $284 to $450; a representative told them Thursday that the rent now will rise to $380 on July 1st before it goes to the full $450 in April 2020.

They were also told that rents would increase about 3 percent in the ensuing years.

The increases also include so-called “premium fees” for having pets, having a double-wide trailer or having a corner lot.

Havenpark has promised to make improvements to the facility.

The Golfview Residents Association held a rally with local elected officials after Havenpark locked media and attorneys out of the meeting. Representatives accused Havenpark of putting too many restrictions on the face-to-face and announcing the meeting date and time just a few days before.

State senator Zach Wahls of Coralville, who attended the rally, has said that mobile park tenants should have the same rights afforded to other types of renters and said the laws need to be strengthened to make that happen.
