The Johnson County Drug Task Force has joined the investigation into a Thursday shooting on Iowa City’s northeast side.

That information comes via a news release from Iowa City Police on Friday.

Officers from multiple departments responded to 314 Cayman Street just after 2pm Thursday for a report of a subject who had been shot by another person. Initial responding officers tended to the victim, who was transported to an area hospital by ambulance with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The officers also evacuated nearby residents and determined that a threat was no longer present.

Police stress this incident is not believed to be related to recent shootings in Cedar Rapids, nor an unsubstantiated social media post that is circulating about planned violence in the Iowa City area this weekend. There is no information that the public is at risk or in danger.

The case remains under investigation. The ICPD says the shooting is not believed to have been a random act.

Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about this incident that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at www.iccrimestoppers.org, or 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are held in strict confidence and anonymity is guaranteed. Individuals providing information do not have to reveal their identity to collect a reward.
