A second arrest has been made in connection with a brawl last weekend at the Iowa Lodge in Coralville.

Coralville Police were called to the complex on The Coralville Strip just before 9am on June 8th after reports of a couple fighting. 27-year-old Iowa Lodge resident Chase Williams told arriving police that 25-year-old Jazmine Jones of Chicago had hit him in the lower lip, and officers observed Jones reaching over his back to try to stop him entering a vehicle.

As Jones was being detained and ordered not to leave the scene, she tried to walk away, physically resisting officers. She allegedly caused cuts, bit down on an officer’s arm, and slapped the glasses off him.

Police now say that while they were trying to detain Jones, Williams refused their commands to stand clear. One officer physically removed Williams from the immediate area by grabbing his arm and pulling him away, but Williams allegedly swung his right arm as if he was going to engage the officer. The officer drew his Taser and called for assistance, writing in his arrest report that multiple other subjects were emerging from their nearby apartments. He said they outnumbered the responding officers, and he was unsure of their alliances or willingness to stay clear and keep from getting involved.

Williams then allegedly tried to get between two different arresting officers and Jones. During the struggle to control Williams one officer suffered three small abrasions to his forearm, elbow and thumb, drawing blood.

Jones faces two counts of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations causing injury, Interference with Official Acts, and Domestic Abuse Assault. If convicted on the charges she could be sentenced to over five years in prison.

Williams is charged with Interference with Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of one year in jail.
