A Coralville woman claiming drugs found in her bra were laundry detergent didn’t fool guards at the Johnson County Jail Friday morning.

26-year-old Shanice Burks of Boston Way was booked into the South Capitol Street facility on active warrants just before 10:45 Friday morning. When asked if she had any contraband on her person, she said no.

According to arrest records, a small gem bag was found in Burks’ bra during a search. Inside the bag was a white, powdery substance.

Burks allegedly claimed the substance was Borax, and that she commonly carries small amounts of random substances around in gem bags.

Deputies believed the substance was ice methamphetamine, which was confirmed after preliminary testing.

Burks is charged with Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Institution and Possession of a Controlled Substance – 2nd Offense. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
