A transient is back behind bars after his mother told corrections officers that her son has become “sour” with being on probation.

29-year-old Jeffrey Naughton was on probation after an incident last January. Iowa City Police say that Naughton broke into a storage area at Iowa City Window and Door on Highway 1 West on January 7th. He was found sleeping in the storage area just before 9:30am, and refused to identify himself to police other than saying his name was “Jeff”. He was charged with Obstructing Officers and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The Department of Correctional Services says Naughton skipped three different scheduled appointments with his probation officer in May. An officer went to his residence on May 24th, but Naughton wasn’t home. Instead, his mother told police her son had become “sour” about being on probation.

Naughton was booked into the Johnson County Jail on a probation violation just before 4:15 Friday afternoon.

Naughton also has a history of weapons and assault charges.
