IC man accused of impregnating minor

An Iowa City man has been charged with lascivious acts with a minor after allegedly impregnating a minor child.
Arrest reports indicate that George Bendera of South First Avenue was 21 years old when he had intercourse with the minor sometime between New Years Eve and New Years Day 2014 at a residence on Taylor Drive. At the time, Bendera had been the minor’s supervisor at their place of employment for approximately two years.
The girl became pregnant and gave birth to a child. Bendera was later confirmed to be the father through paternity testing.
A warrant was issued for Bendera’s arrest; he was picked up Sunday night and formally charged. If convicted on the initial count, he could be sentenced to a year in prison.
