An Iowa City woman accused of attacking her husband with a screwdriver has entered a not guilty plea.

34-year-old Sarah Nace made the plea in Johnson County District Court on Monday.

Iowa City Police were called to One University Place on Melrose Avenue just before 3:30 on May 1st after a caller said his wife, identified as Nace, had attacked him with a screwdriver inside the couple’s apartment. The man had visible marks on his arms and hands, bite marks on his left forearm and was bleeding.

The man told investigators that Nace had attacked him while trying to get through a door when he attempted to block the screwdriver. The screwdriver scraped his hand, drawing blood.

Nace allegedly rebuked the investigating officer, telling him he was not a marriage counselor and could not help the situation. She then demanded the officer leave the apartment and continued to be agitated and uncooperative.

Nace was taken into custody with some resistance and was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of 30 days in jail.

A trial date has not yet been set.
